Shanksville, PA (10-21-2001)
On September 11th 2001 the fourth plane to crash was United Airlines Flight 93,
it went down in Shanksville Pennsylvania (Somerset County). This town
is about 20 minutes from my grandma's house in Johnstown PA so on October 22nd
while I was in Johnstown I decided to visit the memorial in Shanksville.
I heard a couple stories about what was going on in Johnstown that day, one of which
is how Johnstown airport was warned that a large plane was flying twords them and to possibly
evacuate because of what happened in New York and Washington. Since
they didn't have radar the air traffic controllers were looking for the plane with
binoculars, but before the plane could come to view it had crashed.
Anyways, Johnstown airport then became the main airport the government and airlines would use
to get to Shanksville. For a brief period of time they also closed route 219 which was a
4 lane highway going from Johnstown to Bedford(?). Rumor has it that all the memorial stuff
that was there will be removed and preserved for a permanent memorial. If anyone wants directions
to get to this memorial e-mail me.
My uncle insured the house that was right beside the crash site, so he was out there surveying
the damage done days after the crash.

The peice of paper in plastic held down by a rock was brought to the
site by NY Fire Fighters. It came from the World Trade center site. |

| I was only in the bottom floor of one of the towers (before Sol and I got kicked out of there for
unauthorized broadcasting), so it seemed
appropriate to sign right there, and represent my home state! (Bottom left of the right tower) |
