Flight to Fresno-Yosemite Intl & Sacramento, California (06-16-2003)

The route of this flight was from Palo Alto (PAO) to Fresno-Yosemite International (FAT) to Sacramento Mather (MHR) then back to Palo Alto. Total flight distance was 348nm, and flight time was 4.7 hours.
It was a nice cross country flight, after contacting ground control and getting a progressive taxi to Mercury aviation the people there met me at my plane with a golf cart, drove me about 50 feet to their office, and after requesting fuel they were nice enough to drive me to a nearby hotel to grab lunch. After lunch I was filing a flight plan from my plane with the Rancho Murieta FSS, and 2 Cessna Citation jets started their engines right in front of me, very loud, added a little more heat to the Fresno 95 degree sun, filled the air with the smell of good 'ol Jet A fuel, and rocked the plane like it was in a disco. Another cool thing was all the F-16s taking off, I should've requested an escort on my way to Sacramento :)

Passing Castle (MER), this used to be an airforce base, now it's an uncontrolled general aviation airport with a 11,800 foot runway! There is also a museum near the field with an SR-71 :) Look Ma, no hands, just some good trim

Rancho Seco nuclear power plant (25 miles south of Sacramento). What a shame this thing sits there not generating nuclear power... no wonder California has an energy shortage.
